Teacher Training

Genesis Health Clubs Pilates offers a full 450-hr comprehensive teacher training program lead by Director, Kelli Harsh PMA®CPT.  After introducing Pilates to our members at Genesis Health Clubs in 2003, Kelli continues to share her passion for fitness and movement through her teacher trainings and workshops. If you are ready to take the next steps to creating a fulfilling career or would like to enhance your personal growth and knowledge in Pilates please contact us about joining our first Teacher Training module in the spring of 2015.  More information about our training is offered on our website at genesishealthclubs.com. 

Genesis Health Clubs offer a full range of Pilates Teacher Training programs. With many options for teaching Mat classes, Reformer classes or Pilates personal sessions on the Reformer, and other equipment, we have the programs you need to succeed.

We offer certificate of completion for each module of training, so you can begin your teaching and practice hours while continuing your training if you choose. Please check with each affiliate location for specific training modules, as each program may vary.

TriBarre Instructor Training

TriBarre is offered exclusively at Genesis Health Clubs. The TriBarre program offers a “trilogy” of classes which incorporates three different types of workouts at the barre. As we begin the exciting process of expanding our barre program, Genesis launches the first tribarre instructor training held at the Rock Road Genesis location in Wichita.

Date: March 4 & 5
Schedule:  Saturday 8am - 4pm and Sunday 8am - 12pm
Cost: $125 (GHC Employee's)    $175 (non-employee's)

Registration and Deposit of $75.00 due by February 19th

Anatomy & Movement Principles - 6 Hours
Required for Mat & Reformer courses

Includes an intro to the primary muscles involved in movement. Specifically geared toward Pilates teachers.  Training includes covering exercises with specific reference to the muscles and joints allowing you to understand the information more effectively.

Mat I - Intro to Pilates Beginning/Intermediate Exercises - 18 Hours

Mat I includes an introduction to the history and principles of Pilates, beginning exercises and introduction to intermediate level exercises with modifications. An overview of anatomy and movement principles is covered with this course.

Training manuals are provided for all courses. It is advised that those participating in our Teacher Trainings also purchase the following; PMA (Pilates Method Alliance)Certification Exam Study Guide, Return To Life by Joseph H. Pilates and William John Miller, and Pilates Anatomy by Rael Isacowitz & Karen Clippinger.

Mat II w/Props - Intermediate/Advanced Exercises*
12 Hours (*pre-requisite Mat I, Anatomy & Movement principles)

Mat II includes the remaining intermediate and advanced level exercises as well as use of props for advancing clients or providing appropriate modifications. A continuation of anatomy and movement principles is covered with this course.

34 Hours (*pre-requisite Mat I, Anatomy & Movement principles)

Reformer I & II includes an introduction to the Pilates Reformer, beginning and intermediate exercises, session sequencing and teaching cues for group classes. You will also learn modifications designed for group and individual instruction. How to teach clients at different levels of ability is emphasized.

Cadillac/Tower (These dates have not been set.  Please check back soon.)
18 Hours (*pre-requisite Mat I, Anatomy & Movement principles, Reformer I & II)

Provides a thorough introduction to Cadillac/Tower exercises.  Equipment set up, safety and maintenance is covered as well as how to incorporate the exercises into a clients session. This training is appropriate for learning Trapeze Table, tower or wall unit exercises.

12 Hours  (*pre-requisite Mat I, Anatomy & Movement principles, Reformer I & II)

Learn to teach clients on this very adaptable Pilates piece of equipment. Includes exercises and variations for both private training sessions and classes.

Ladder Barrel - 12 Hours

Barre- Standing Pilates
6 Hours  (*contact us for pre-requisite information)

This Pilates based Barre training emphasizes the correct biomechanics of movement to increase strength, flexibility and stability. It is a program geared for all movement teachers, no dance experience required.

Requirements for Completion of 450 Hour Comprehensive Teacher Training
To become a fully trained Pilates Instructor, students must complete the following requirements:

•    Mat Instructor training or equivalent (30 hours)
•    Reformer Instructor training ~ Course work, written and practical test (34 Hours)
•    Cadillac/Tower ~ Course work, written and practical test (18 hours)
•    Chair ~ Course work, written and practical test (12 hours)
•    Ladder Barrel- Course work, written and practical test (12 hours)
•    50 Personal practice hours and 150 Teaching hours, 24 Personal Sessions & 120 Observation Hours. (We suggest 20 observation hours for each module)
•    Practical test

Total hours for completion of full program: 450 hours

Upon finishing all of the requirements, a certificate of completion from Genesis Health Clubs will be issued. Students who have completed a Pilates training program through other organizations and are interested in obtaining CEU's and further training, should contact our office to inquire about our bridge program.

The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is the international, not-for-profit, professional association and certifying agency dedicated to the teachings of Joseph H. and Clara Pilates. Our mission is to foster community, integrity, and respect for diversity; establish certification and continuing education standards; and promote the Pilates method of exercise.

After completing a 450 hour comprehensive teacher training program, you are eligible to sit for the PMA-CPT (Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Teacher) exam.  Please visit their website for more details.
