In October of 2010, a friend asked me to be a part of their group of four for a Genesis challenge. I had struggled with my weight for years and was ready to make a change. It was easier to commit to my workouts and watch what I ate when I was a part of a group.

The biggest challenge, but the most rewarding, was to join in a group fitness class. I remember the first time I walked in Studio A at the beginning of a zumba class. It was a packed room and I felt like everyone was watching me. I went to the back corner of the room. By the end of the class, I had one of the hardest workouts and I even lasted the full hour. I felt very clumsy and couldn’t keep up most of the time, and man was I exhausted! However, so many of the people in the room were so supportive and encouraging. I committed to a month of classes...the rest is history.

I was officially addicted to zumba. I was at my heaviest weight of 245 pounds, but could do this class. I couldn’t make myself exercise for a full hour on any of the machines. I have found that each person has to find what works for them, what they enjoy. I made a large group of friends in the class and was seeing results. I had been a home daycare provider for 14 years and the gym became my social time. It all became a routine and when the results started, the easier it got. Cheri, the most awesome zumba instructor, talked me into trying group power. I wasn’t brave enough to lift weights in the weight room, but wanted to start toning up. Again, I LOVED this class.

For the first year, I faithfully attended zumba and group power. I lost 95 pounds and felt great. I couldn’t believe how much stronger I felt, both physically and mentally. I looked forward to going to events and out with friends. Before, I always felt uncomfortable in a group. I couldn’t believe how much the classes helped my self image. I loved the feeling of a group and the encouragement of the instructors and other in the class. I felt good to get multiple phone calls if I missed a class. People actually wanted to know if I was okay.

It was time to try something new. I started working out with a personal trainer in October and couldn’t believe how sore I was. Brandon was great at setting up workouts that challenged me. I thought I had become pretty strong in group power, but nothing compares to one-on-one training. I now work the training into my weekly schedule.

Again, I am seeing results. After three weeks, I had lost 6 pounds, 1 % body fat, and lots of inches! I will be glad to have a trainer through the holidays.

The classes and the weight I lost has increased my self worth and made me have the courage to try new things. I see people I have know for years and they don’t recognize me and I feel and look years younger. I started a new job after working at home for 14 years. My job is something I wouldn’t have had the courage to try 2 years ago. Thank you Genesis and all the instructors and trainers who work so hard and care so much about others health and fitness!!

I joined Genesis in September, 2011. I was overweight and knew I had to do something about it. I was always tired and looked older than my age. When I joined the club provided me with two free training sessions. My trainer, John has been with me on my journey to success from the beginning. I was determined to loose weight and to become healthy as I possibly could be. I have committed myself to a workout program I feel is just right for me. I workout six days a week and work with my personal trainer one to two days a week. I lost 40 pounds in the first six months of my joining Genesis. I owe my weight loss and muscle toning to my personal trainer and Genesis.

At 34 years old I am healthier and in better shape now than I have ever been. My weight has been a lifelong challenge, always struggling with eating too much and not exercising enough. I have tried many different weight loss programs; I would stick to them for awhile then go back to my old ways, never really making them a habit or a way of life. The timing and my mindset just weren’t right. In July 2010, after being diagnosed with depression, feeling horrible, and having no energy, I weighed in at 286 pounds. I needed to change my life. I joined Genesis health club earlier in the year. I had exercised off and on for a few months prior to July, but never really with any goals in mind. Then in July the change I needed became clear. Trainer Joe Humiston talked me into signing up for personal training. It was the one thing I hadn’t done, so I decided to give it a try. I fully committed myself to his nutrition and exercise recommendations, the weight started to come off.

He taught me to eat healthier, control portion sizes, and make wise choices when eating out. One of the best things for me was having a trainer, Joe, to hold me accountable, encourage me, provide motivation, and challenge me to follow the customized workout plan he developed. I have completely changed my lifestyle. I was eating anything I wanted, whenever I wanted, and maybe exercising occasionally. Now I eat three meals a day with three healthy snacks and I workout six days a week. I added more fruits and vegetables, changed to whole grain products, eat leaner proteins, and carefully measure and record what I consume. I look forward each day to my exercise regiment and am committed to sticking to my workout plan. The staff at Genesis is always friendly and I have made many new friends for life. Someone, whether it is a staff member or other club member, is always there to encourage me, even on days when I don’t know if I can go anymore.

Having struggled with weight my entire life, I finally feel like I have my weight under control and my health is in check. I have lost 130 pounds and plan to lose 6 more. I feel like a new person with more energy and more self confidence. Now I actually look forward to my regular workouts, it has become part of my daily life and it is awesome to see my body change. My advice for others to achieve their weight loss goals is to become 110% committed to changing their life, there is no quick fix, and it takes sacrifice, dedication, and lots of hard work!!! It is a lifestyle change. You must figure out how much your health and wellness is worth to you, how much you want it, and how much you’re willing to fight for it. No one can do it but you; it is a fight with yourself and for yourself. People can help you along the way, but you must first decide to commit to a course of action that will change your life. This commitment has set my life on a course that assures that I will continue to learn new things about my health and wellness my entire life. Through this entire experience one of my favorite sayings has been: “Everything happens for a reason.” I hope my weight loss will inspire others and they will see that it really is possible!!!

My whole adult life I have weighed above 200 pounds. I thought there were 5 basic food groups: dairy, meat, grains, fruits & vegetables, and chocolate.  On January 1st, 2010, I weighed 272 pounds and had back pain as well as other health problems.  I had a New Year’s resolution, to improve my health and life by eating healthier and exercising more often.  Yoga got me started on my path.

I began a journal, documenting my daily exercise as well as caloric intake.  I gradually increased my fruit and vegetable consumption and eventually became a borderline vegetarian.  I do not starve myself by eating less than 1,200 calories a day.  The first year, I lost 70 pounds and the second 30.  This is equal to 100 boxes of butter! Since I am no longer medically obese, my new goal for this year is to lose another 12 pounds and continue to increase my fitness.

One instructor, Michelle, was a great supporter when the simplest yoga poses were difficult.  The practice of yoga improved my whole body and mind.  It straightened my back and posture, as well as my internal organ placement.  I also found a cardiovascular exercise, Group Cycle, thanks to Travis, that I enjoy since I do not like running or team sports.

To all of the fitness instructors at Genesis, my deepest heartfelt Thank You! I could not have done it without you! Please remember, your small encouragements to new people at the gym could change someone’s life.

In 2004, I tipped the scales at 320 pounds. A typical sedentary college lifestyle of fast food and parties will take its toll on the body.  I was able to lose 30 pounds, but by 2008 I was back up to 300 again. I knew it was drop the weight now, or never. Two years ago, I dramatically changed my lifestyle. I completely committed myself to weight loss.

When I began, I cut alcohol and restaurants from my diet. I started eating more fresh foods and controlling portion sizes. My workouts consisted of one hour of weight training and 20 minutes of cardio. After I had lost about 40 pounds, I joined Genesis. I stepped up my workouts to one and a half hours of weight training and 45 minutes of cardio. This is how I lost the remaining sixty pounds. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe I have lost 100 pounds. My wife and other people close to me say I look like a completely different person. Losing this weight has given me a whole new outlook on life. I am more positive and I have more energy!  Now that I have met my goal, I am not trying to lose weight; I am just maintaining my weight loss and keeping my body healthy.

What I love most about Genesis is the friendly staff; they are all kind and helpful. I have been to many gyms, and I have to say that Genesis takes home the gold when it comes to cleanliness and locker room amenities. The cardio theatre at Genesis is great. It makes the work out go by so much more quickly!

I decided to give Genesis a try a couple of years ago during one of their Women's Fair Fitness Challenges. To date, I have completed three of their challenges.  And last year made the official switch from the Y to a full time member of Genesis. I've lost over 100 pounds and I feel great!

At first, I was apprehensive about working out at Genesis and had some misconceptions as an obese person.  I've since learned that the people are what make Genesis AWESOME!  From my warm greeting at the front desk when I check in, to the friendly group fitness instructors, I have become very comfortable at Genesis. I’ve had a few sessions with a Personal Trainer and not only are they great, but every time I see my trainer in the club he always has words of encouragement for me and notices my progress.
They have so much to offer, and I’ve tried to really focus on using all aspects of my membership and really get the most out of it. I love, love, love the Group Power classes! I do water aerobics, swim laps and tango with the elliptical and tread climber regularly. I’ve even met with their Nutrionist to enhance my experience and new healthy lifestyle.
Since losing the weight, my lifestyle has been completely different. I have energy. I can do everything, nothing stops me!  It feels as though I have a whole different life now, and with a little weight still left to lose I’m very confident I’ll meet my goals.

I moved back from Oklahoma in early spring of 2008 and joined shortly thereafter. Genesis was my 'safe haven,' if you will, as I was going through a divorce at the time and knew no one in Hutchinson (although I had grown up in this town). They were advertising an open house for all of the classes where you could sample each class to get an idea of ones you might be intere

sted in, so my sister and I went to Group Power, Group Ride, and Zumba...we fell in love! GP offered instruction and a full weight-lifting routine where I didn't have to worry about which muscles I worked which days. GR allowed me maximum calorie burn which ended up being a wonderful option in conjunction with running.
Since joining Genesis in 2008, I have lost 50lbs which helped me reach my true goal of 100lbs lost since February of 2007! Working out is not only a necessity for me but has become a passion and desire to help others realize they too can choose to live a healthier lifestyle.

The future looks good to me now!  I won’t stop working at it!  Thanks Genesis!

I joined Genesis back in 2005 when I weighed 170 pounds. I started walking and doing a few weights. I decided to try some Pilate’s classes after being encouraged by some members at the gym. After a couple months, I decided to try Yoga as well and I fell in love with it. In May 2006 Genesis brought Group Ride in. During the summer of 2006 I had lost 40 pounds & still today I keep it off!  I tell people everyday to try all the classes…. find your “nitch”, that is what I did! Going to class you will make friends & with those friends comes your support system. To this day those friends and that support system still exist.  If I miss one class I receive text messages or phone calls “Hey where were you tonight?”.

You can't just go on a diet and expect real and lasting weight loss. Working out and eating healthy has to become a habit and as much a part of your daily routine as combing your hair or brushing your teeth.

As human beings, we cannot function in neutral. You're either moving closer to your goal

s or farther away from your goals with your habits and actions. So make a decision today to move closer toward your goals and dreams.

Real change happened for me when I REPLACED BAD HABITS with GOOD HABITS. It wasn't enough to work out hard for an hour, but still continue eating out at restaurants with all the hidden sugar and salt in every meal. In order to lose the weight, I had to exercise AND eat healthy. One without the other is not enough.

The best advice I can give anyone is to ACCEPT PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for the diet and exercise decisions you have made in your life to this point. If those decisions were poor, then humbly admit it and move on. But don't beat yourself up over it. Simply realize that by accepting PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for your actions, YOU ARE EMPOWERING YOURSELF for positive change--beginning now.

One year ago I began thinking of breaking my vow I had made to myself.  I had one full knee replacement and, at 80 years old, I vowed to never do that again.  So my left arthritic knee was becoming more and more painful, and at 205 pounds, walking up stairs, shopping, or carrying in the groceries was very difficult.  I knew I had to do something, and fortunately I made a really good decision.

 I called Genesis Health Clubs.

Jeff gave me a tour of the facility and after having all my questions answered, I signed up to be a member and was given an appointment with a trainer for three free sessions.  Myrtle evaluated what I could do, what I needed to do, and how to do it.  From that point on my life was changed.  I enjoy going to work out every week day, and my trainer is so valuable to me that I have worked with her every Saturday too.  With her help and my hard work I have become much stronger, have lost almost 50 pounds, and no longer take the pain medication for my knee!  My arthritic knee is not “cured” but I am so much stronger and lighter that I can now do those activities that were so painful before.  I have even done things that I only imagined years ago, like making my first tandem skydive a few months ago.

The future looks good to me now!  I won’t stop working at it!  Thanks Genesis!

In the year 2000 I tested for my black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. I also participated in the Bike Across Kansas for several years. At the time I was in fairly good physical condition. Due to a family illness I stopped participating in all physical activities to take care of my husband and two children. After my divorce and things settled down I began to work on myself again. In August of 2008 I was lying in bed one morning and I thought to myself, “I am better than this. I am tired of being fat, feeling like crap and being unhappy”.

So, one of my best friends invited me to work out with her at Genesis. She usually worked out with her daughter but she had left town for college. It worked out great. We work out four to five times a week doing cardio and weights. It was really hard at first because I was so out of shape but I was determined. I started out very slowly. In the past I had always been in a big hurry and this time I decided I was going to be patient. I started out by walking on the treadmill at 3.3 miles per hour. Pitiful I know, but now I actually run! I usually do cardio for about an hour. I change it up between the treadmill and Stairmaster and the bicycle. I am more concerned with how many calories I burn than how many miles I go.

I also started eating correctly, although I do eat things that are not that great for me on the weekends. I also try to eat less. When I do go out I only eat about half of the plate that is served. Leftovers are fabulous. I also partake in libations on the weekend. If I deprive myself of all things not so healthy I wouldn’t have made it. The biggest help for me was to have a good friend that usually went with me to work out. When one of us didn’t really feel like it we made each other go, also being patient and determined. It is not easy but if you decide you can do it.

Genesis is great. Everyone is helpful and kind. I have friends there now and it makes it easier to go. I also have another friend that is overweight that I have bugged long enough and she is now going. She enjoys Genesis as well. Some people think they are too fat to go to the gym. Duh, that is what it is for! Start where you are and make little goals and eventually you will get there.

"I just wanted you to know what my wife and I thought of our Trainer. We both found John to be an excellent trainer and because of all my physical problems I have to commend him on his skill level. In areas where I couldn't do the exercise he always adapted the excerise to fit my limitations. Because of John, I feel I am getting stronger in my entire body, with a long way to go. One of the most significant changes he has instilled in my wife and I are life changes. Mental, dietary and physical. All of these combined are doing wonders for us both.
We are both so pleased we left the Y and joined Genesis. We feel better, we feel stronger and our outlook is of a more positive one.
Thanks again for Genesis being a  part of our life."

"I just wanted to let you know about some success I've had since I've joined Genesis. In late March when I joined, I got 3 free sessions with a trainer. I continued with Robert for 6 sessions after the initial 3 to fine tune things.

Here is what has happened since I started. I went to the doctor on Monday and I've lost 15 pounds & several inches off my waistline but more importantly my blood pressure has come down to 120/80. My cholesterol dropped from 222 to 99! These are life-changing things that will help me have a much healthier & longer life. The doctor wanted to put me on meds initially & I said no to let me see how the workout thing goes.

I believe it is all due to getting started in the right program with the right trainer. The free sessions got it started & Robert helped me to stay focused and now it is just routine to come in the morning, 6 days a week.

You have a member for life that is now healthier & more informed about the balance between diet and exercise.

Keep up the good work. I hope you have heard of others with similar success due to free Personal Trainer sessions. Please give Robert a big "At a Boy" for his interest in others helping them achieve healthier lifestyles. Your really hit a home run with me and the free Personal Trainer sessions."

Thanks again,
Jeff Keeny

To Genesis Club Management and Staff:

My girlfriend and I recently purchased memberships with you all and I wanted to write a short note to let you know how much we are enjoying ourselves.

In my life, I have had 3 gym memberships for a total of five years. This does not include the college gyms, etc... I can honestly say that none of my other purchases can compare to what I have experienced so far with Genesis.

From the purchase of the membership from Brian (who listened to what we said and didn't try to "wow" us with a fancy and unnecessary sales pitch) to friendly front desk staff to extremely helpful and attentive managers, we could not be more happy.

Word of mouth is the best way to advertise and I can not say enough good about you all- in fact, I am heanding out the 25 referral forms this week! (Perhaps you all can even get me back in shape!)

Looking forward to a long-standing relationship,
Rob Ross

"My name is Alia Mahi I have been a member for two years. Genesis is the best club I have ever joined. I have lived in Los Angeles, San Diego, Montana and by far this is the best club! I have joined Bally's, Gold's, 24 hour Fitness, an All Women Club and still Genesis has been the most rewarding experience. I love your staff. James Muniz knows how to make every person feel welcome and special. The service is great and it makes working out actually enjoyable! I just wanted to pass on that the club is one of the things I will miss most about Wichita."

Thank you!
Alia Mahi

"I am a member at the Rock Road location - but saw a 6:30 pm cardio/ab class at your facility I wanted to try. Did try it yesterday - and LOVED IT! The instructor (Cesario) was wonderful and really gives you a good work out. Best thing is, he is friendly and really makes the workout fun. Makes you want to return ~ which I plan to do. Just wanted to let you know you have a great instructor."
