Instructor we are featuring this month:

Kara Thomas was born and raised in Olathe, KS.  She went to school at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on a full ride vocal scholarship.  Then in 1995 she came to Emporia to finish her college career in Early Childhood Development, graduating in 1997 from Emporia State University.  She now calls Emporia her home, married Jerid Thomas in 1998, and has two children, Paige-13yrs. and Jaden-10yrs.  Her children are the day to day excitement that keeps her and Jerid on their toes, between traveling softball, volleyball, baseball games and dance classes they stay ready with the camera to catch the memories.

Kara works for Thomas Property Management as the Property Manager and takes care of overseeing 300 properties.  One of her favorite hobbies is her business called Kake Atelier, where she makes wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and rents out chocolate fountains.  She likes to call this her “Therapy” Job.

In 2007, Kara started teaching classes at Walburn’s Gym.  She taught a mixture of step classes, kickboxing classes, and Zumba classes.  Then when it changed hands to become Genesis Health Clubs she went and received certification in Cycle.  Teaching classes in this setting has been an absolute joy and has given her the opportunity to meet so many people as well as keeping her motivated to live a healthy lifestyle.  

In her spare time, Kara loves to go watch movies, listen to music, go see musicals, shop at the West Bottoms in KC, and last but not least, she loves to travel!

Class of the Month: Combat Fitness

We are bringing it back and Basil will give you a workout to remember!

A cardio based class that uses the fundamentals of boxing to engage participants.  Members are given a warm-up of various calisthenics & dynamic stretching.  The participants are provided with a number of movement combos including jabs, crosses, high knees & elbows.  This class is designed for members who want to have a full body exercise hour.  No prior boxing experience is needed.  Come have fun; get your sweat on & have a great 1 hour, kick butt class!
