GENESIS PURCHASES LAWRENCE ATHLETIC CLUB PROPERTY

Thursday, December 6 2012 11:00 PM
Categorized In Press Release

Genesis Health Clubs has acquired a second location in Lawrence with the purchase of the previous Lawrence Athletic Club building at 3201 Mesa Way. Their first day of operations will be Friday, December 7th at 11:00am.

“The previous members of LAC won’t recognize this facility when we are done with it. The club will be completely re-designed and re-equipped in this $4 million dollar project,” said Rodney Steven II, owner of Genesis Health Clubs. “Construction will begin soon and will be completed in phases, so that we can still keep the club open for workouts throughout the process.”

The new facility will include several amenities as well as three group fitness studios.  A cycling studio, a mind/body yoga and Pilates studio and a large multi-purpose studio are all in the plans for the remodel.  Group fitness classes are an essential element in all of Genesis Health Clubs. Classes are taught by highly certified instructors and provide members with a great way to train with a professional while socializing with friends in a group setting. The men’s and women’s locker rooms will be completely demolished and relocated to include steam rooms and like other Genesis Health Club facilities, will be the most luxurious area in the club. Members will enjoy towel and locker service as well as provided toiletries (lotions, soaps, shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, hair spray, etc…).  The current tanning area in the club will be upgraded also.

Genesis members from the current Iowa Street location will be welcome to use both clubs. They will be honoring all existing memberships to LAC, as they will be acquiring all active members in their purchase.

It’s been a long transition for Genesis since first opening in Lawrence a little over a year ago.  Upon opening, Steven had intended on starting construction right away. After a year of negotiations, Genesis has not been able to purchase the Iowa Street facility. They own all of their other eleven facilities and buildings, so construction plans have been delayed until they can buy the property and begin making improvements and upgrades.

“I’m excited to finally bring the city of Lawrence a first class health club with first class operations.  We haven’t been able to really bring our brand to Lawrence, and we’re eager to do that in a state-of-the art facility that we own.” said Steven.

(MCPHERSON, KS) – Genesis Health Clubs will be taking over the McPherson Athletic Club at 1350 N. Main Street beginning December 1st. Genesis has purchased the previous Kyle’s Discount building at 601 N. Main Street and plans on moving the health club to the new location sometime next year after the two million dollar construction project is complete.

The new facility will include several amenities including two group fitness studios. Group fitness classes are an essential element in all of the Genesis Health Clubs. Classes are taught by highly certified instructors and provide members with a great way to train with a professional while socializing with friends in a group setting. The men’s and women’s locker rooms will be like other Genesis facilities, the most luxurious area in the club. Members will enjoy towel and locker service as well as provided toiletries (lotions, soaps, shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, hair spray, etc…).

McPherson Athletic Club members will have access to Genesis immediately and their memberships will also allow them to workout at several other Genesis Health Club locations around the state.

Genesis has been working with current McPherson Athletic Club owners, Kenny & Brian Walburn, for several months to buy the business. The Walburns were previous owners of Walburn’s Fitness & Wellness in Emporia before selling to Steven and converting the club to a Genesis Health Club in 2010.

“I’m excited to bring Genesis Health Club to McPherson and look forward to working with the community and building them a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility.” said Steven.

Categorized In Press Release
We are excited to announce the addition of two new programs to the West 13th location coming very soon!

Starting today we will be undergoing a construction project that will turn Racquetball Court #1 into two separate studios that will house both an MMA and Boxing program. We have been monitoring the usage of both racquetball courts over the past
several months and I feel that we could better utilize one of these courts to service more members.

Our plan is to add a floor to separate the court into two studios, (MMA on the top floor across from Studio B, Boxing on the bottom floor where the existing entrance to Court #1 is located. Construction will take approximately 45-60 days. I’m hoping to have some drawings of what each studio will look like in the club very soon so you can get an idea of what is in store for you!

We are currently in the process of hiring an MMA coach who will join our staff and be leading the program for both kids and adults. We’re also working with a boxing instructor who will make this program one you won’t want to miss out on!

We are thrilled to be introducing these new programs first at West 13th. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to let Adam know or email us at info@genesishealthclubs.com and we will work to get you all the information we can.

Biggest Loser Competitor Visits Genesis!

Sunday, June 3 2012 11:00 PM
Categorized In Press Release
Wesley Medical Center presents Biggest Loser Competitor Hannah Curlee at Genesis this Wednesday, June 6th!  Come by for a Meet & Greet from 10am-10:30am at the Rock Road location.

Hannah Curlee Bio

Hannah Curlee is half the woman she used to be - or 51.6% of her former self, to be exact. Curlee and her sister Olivia Ward were the top two finishers on Season 11 of NBC' Biggest Loser reality show.

By the show’s end Curlee, who is now director of health engagement for H2U, had dropped from 248 pounds to 128, a 120-pound loss. For viewers, the transformation was startling. For Curlee, it was life altering.

The Houston native was a homecoming queen and accomplished athlete before an accident at age 20 resulted in back surgery and the beginning of life on the sidelines. Twelve years and dozens of pounds later, Hannah started her journey back to good health when she and her sister snagged a couple of spots on the “Biggest Loser.”

During her nine months on the show, support from back home was one of Curlee’s biggest sources of strength. Letters and emails from former colleagues, doctors, nurses and other staff at Hospital Corporation of America, H2U's parent company, buoyed her spirits and kept her focused on her goal. Today, Curlee is committed to paying forward the help and support she received.

(LEAVENWORTH, KS) – Genesis Health Clubs announced today that they have purchased the property at 2924 S. 4th Street Trafficway, (the former "Food 4 Less" grocery store) and will be targeting to move by the end of the year. Currently Genesis occupies a large space in the Leavenworth Shopping Mall at 3400 S. 4th Street.

The new location allows for more space and many added amenities including a lap pool, basketball court with walking track and an MMA studio that will host the already popular mixed martial arts and American Jujitsu programs Genesis offers.  The facility also will have three group fitness studios; a large aerobics floor, a mind/body studio for yoga and Pilates and a cycling studio, a whirlpool, spacious locker rooms that include steam rooms, and large cardio and weight rooms with several pieces of new additional cutting edge equipment.  Genesis is known for our Personal Training and the ‘Results Based Training Program’ that will be ever so prevalent in the new facility.

Genesis Owner, Rodney Steven II, stated, “Since opening up our location in Leavenworth I don’t feel we have had the opportunity to serve our members in the way we are known for.  We are sorry it took us so long, but we were unable to get the current landlord at the Leavenworth Mall to work with us on a new lease or purchase of the building on acceptable terms. We didn’t want to remodel the existing space until we owned the building or had a long-term lease in place.”

“We own and operate all of our other buildings and this purchase will allow us to bring Leavenworth a large state-of-the-art facility with the same great service and programs as we have in our other Genesis locations. The new location will host so many more amenities including full locker and towel service, free toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body wash), hair dryers in the locker rooms, and the finishing’s will be very contemporary.  We will also have the space to offer more group fitness classes and programs that have been very popular in the club, and we’ll be able to accommodate more members in every class. I’m excited to start construction and share with our members what we have in store for them!” said Steven.

The new Genesis Health Club also plans on housing three or four businesses in its facility including a tanning business with conventional tanning beds and spray tans; a supplement store with nutrition/supplements; a physical therapy office; and possibly a hair salon.  Each business will have entrances from the health club for member convenience, as well as exterior entrances for the general public.

CHAMPIONS FOR CHARITY POSTPONED

Plans for the Event to return in 2010 underway

Wichita, KS (November 9, 2009) -    The second edition of Champions for Charity, originally scheduled for December 6, 2009 at Hartman Arena featuring Melanie Oudin, Bob and Mike Bryan, John Isner and Mardy Fish, has been postponed.  Developed as a fundraiser for the Genesis Foundation for Fitness & Tennis (GFFT), the Board of Directors decided to shift focus towards potentially hosting the event in 2010 rather than 2009 due to the current state of the economy in the region.

“Our original intention was to host an event in 2009 to provide a positive economic impact, further establish our state and city as a place for great tennis, and raise money for GFFT to help encourage more young kids to pick up a racquet and healthy habits early in life”, said Bill Faflick, GFFT Board President.  “However, after careful consideration, we realized now is not the appropriate time to ask area residents and corporations to fund other initiatives outside of their own.  We want to thank ticket buyers and others who supported the event in 2009 and apologize for any inconvenience.”

In its inaugural year in 2006, Champions for Charity featured Andy Roddick and was played at the Rock Road location of Genesis Health Clubs.  The Event was sold-out (nearly 3,000 spectators) and helped raise over $20,000 for the Daniel M. Carney Rehabilitation Engineering Center Wheelchair Seating Program for Children at the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation (CPRF) and the newly created Genesis Foundation for Fitness & Tennis (GFFT).  Organizers feel strongly that with the opening of the new state-of-the-art Hartman Arena in 2009, the event can be equally if not more successful in the near future.  Plans for Champions for Charity to return in 2010 are currently underway as area corporations have indicated strong interest in supporting the event in the future.

Those who purchased tickets for 2009 will be refunded accordingly and should contact the Hartman Arena Box Office, 316-927-3999, located at 8151 N. Hartman Arena Dr., Park City, KS 67147.  For more information visit www.hartmanarena.com.

Group CentergyTM Helps You Redefine Your Self.

WICHITA - 7/14/09 - Group Centergy is a mind-body program at GENESIS HEALTH CLUBS in Wichita and Hutchinson that offers participants a chance to improve strength and flexibility while rejuvenating the body's systems. Its movements focus the body's energy to relieve stress, reduce pain and improve postural alignment.

"A person can achieve clearer mental vision and peace of mind by detachment from stressful thoughts and emotions. This detachment is achieved by learning to direct one's focus. Group Centergy is the perfect program to accomplish this, while working the muscles to maintain flexibility and improve circulation," states Angie Kendall, Group Fitness Coordinator of Genesis Health Clubs.

Set to uplifting music, Group Centergy is a natural stress reliever and an excellent form of preventative medicine. After just one experience of centering and enjoying the movements, Group Centergy participants will notice straighter posture, an increase in strength and flexibility and a greater sense of peace.

Group Centergy is truly for everyone, removing barriers of age, gender and fitness background. The nature of the program makes it easy for everyone to achieve success, master techniques over time and return for more. The program's flexibility, core stability, full-body training and conscious breathing components, when adapted to other activities, make those activities more fluid, effective, enjoyable and balanced.

Genesis Health Clubs Introduces A New Twist on Group Fitness

(WICHITA, KS) – Friendship and fun are two factors that make group fitness a popular offering at Genesis Health Clubs. Starting June 16th, Genesis will launch a new group fitness program designed to increase the fun factor for participants and keep boredom at bay.

Genesis President Rodney Steven II announced today that the Club will kick off Group Powertm, the first of a multi-program offering, on Saturday, June 16th at each location:

  • West 13th - 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m.
  • West Central - 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m.
  • Rock Road - 7:15 a.m., 11 a.m.
  • East Central - 9 a.m., 11 a.m.
  • Hutchinson - 9 a.m., 11 a.m.

Members are signing up now to attend the inaugural classes at each location and be the first to try out the new regimen, says Angie Kendall, Genesis group fitness director. “Group fitness attendance is usually spontaneous, but we expect an overwhelming response the first day, that’s why we’re enrolling people,” she says. Genesis employees will be invited to attend classes the week of June 10th.

First to launch is Group Powertm, a 60-minute barbell program designed to strengthen major muscles. Branded as “Your Hour of Power,” Group Powertm incorporates barbells into a series of simple, athletic moves such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, with music that motivates movement. Group Powertm is the first of a variety of new group fitness programs to roll out in the coming months, including:

  • Group Kicktm An athletic, martial arts-based program.
  • Group Ridetm An indoor cycling program designed to increase strength and endurance.
  • Group Centergytm A mind-body program that lengthens, strengthens and relaxes participants.
  • Group Groovetm A fusion of club, urban and Latin dance styles with motivating chart-topping hits and retro classic tunes.

Each class will be updated quarterly with new choreography and music, to keep participants challenged and avoid fitness plateaus, says Kendall. Pre-choreographed classes, specialized instructor training and quarterly program updates are what distinguish the Group Powertm and its related regimen from the competition.

Versatility is also a key of the new Group Powertm and other programs to come. “Because group fitness appeals to all ages, it’s important that people be able to work at their own pace,” says Kendall. “Participants get their own set of barbells which they can add or subtract plates from, depending on their goals and abilities.” Participants at the June 16th launch will be the first to work with new barbells. Group Powertm is designed to improve lean muscle and elevate metabolic rate, to help burn fat more efficiently.

Group Powertm is part of a scientifically designed group fitness regimen designed by Body Training Systems (BTS), a division of The STEP Company, maker of The STEP, designed and patented in 1989 and currently used in more than 25,000 clubs worldwide. Group Powertm is choreographed by Cathy Spencer-Browning, BTS National Training and Program Director. Cathy holds a degree in Human Movement from Wollongong University, Australia and is an international presenter and lecturer. In 2001 Cathy was named Australia’s Fitness Professional of the Year and has served on the American Council on Exercise Faculty Advisory Board.
