GFFT Donates 2,000 Pairs of Shoes to Wichita Kids in Need

This will make 6,000 pairs of shoes donated since the Kick for Kids program launched in 2019.

Wichita, KS (May 8, 2025) — The Genesis Foundation for Fitness & Tennis (GFFT) is making a significant impact in the lives of children with the fifth annual Kicks for Kids initiative. From April 22 to April 29, the foundation donated 2,000 pairs of brand-new, well-fitting shoes to under-resourced children in Wichita schools. That’s double the number from last year, bringing the total to more than 6,000 pairs of shoes distributed since the program began in 2019.

In February, GFFT volunteers visited participating schools to measure each child’s foot to ensure a proper fit. Now, just in time for spring sports, recess, and outdoor activities, the shoes are ready for delivery – offering a fresh start and a boost of confidence as kids head outside to play and learn.

Shoe distributions took place at the following schools:

Spaght Elementary – April 22 | 2316 E 10th St
Adams Elementary – April 23 | 1002 N Oliver Ave
Colvin Elementary – April 24 | 2820 S Roosevelt St
St. Patrick Catholic School – April 29 | 2023 N Arkansas Ave

“Some of these kids have never had shoes that were truly theirs or that fit,” said DeAnn White, GFFT Director. “This isn’t just about footwear. It’s about dignity, comfort, and confidence. Every child deserves that.”

Many of these children rely on worn-out or hand-me-down shoes that are too small, too big, or falling apart, making it harder for them to focus on school, run at recess, or participate confidently with peers. Kicks for Kids changes that by providing high-quality, properly sized footwear at no cost to families.

Genesis Health Clubs team members volunteer their time to help with fittings and hand out shoes at each school.

“We do this because we care. You see the joy on their faces, and it stays with you,” White said. “We’re so grateful to our donors and volunteers who make this possible, and we hope to grow the program to reach even more kids next year.”

This is the most children the program has served in a single year, and GFFT hopes to grow the program year after year.
