There’s so much information out there about the do’s and don’ts in the fitness world. So many people think they know everything there is to know about the fitness and nutrition world. But who can you believe? Are they all right? How do you know which influencers out there really know their stuff or not? Let’s bust those fitness myths that might be holding you back.

Drinking a lot of water helps with weight loss – Fact or Myth?

It depends on your personal water intake. If you are staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water, chances are, drinking more water will not make a difference in your weight loss. However, if you are lacking in that area, you will benefit from drinking more water daily. How much is too much? That depends on you too. Sources say “In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day.” If you weigh 150 lbs, then you should drink 75-100 ounces of water a day. Water is also known to boost metabolism, curb your appetite, and help your digestive system. It is important to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water to stay healthy. With the right amount, water can help you in your weight loss journey.

Lifting weights will make you bulk up, not lose weight – Fact or Myth?

Myth! If you do it right, lifting weights can help you burn more calories longer and help you lean down and lose fat. You will build muscle too, which gives you a toned look. A common misconception of weightlifting is that it will bulk you up and make you gain weight and look buff. You can increase your reps and lower your weights to tone up your muscles without building them up. Check out our Strength Training workouts on YouTube.

You must do at least one hour of Cardio every day to lose weight – Fact or Myth?

Myth! If you up your intensity, you can maximize your calorie burn in a shorter amount of time. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts are a perfect example of maximizing your calorie burn. HIIT workouts consist of a series of moves done in a 30-second timeframe with a 15-second rest in between each move. Spiking your heart rate quickly helps burn more calories in a short amount of time. We’ve put together some HIIT classes for you. Enjoy!

If you work out every day, you can eat whatever you want – Fact or Myth?

Myth! When it comes to losing weight, the proper formula is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. What does that mean? It means you can be in the gym every day, but if you don’t focus on nutrition every single day, those hours in the gym will not make much of a difference.
