Your workout should be right for YOU | Find Your Fitness Personality

You are your own person. Your personality makes you special! Just as important as it is to find the friends that suit your personality, it's also important to find the workouts that suit you as well. If you enjoy doing something, you're likely to do it again. If you don't, you're likely to quit and never go back. By this logic, if you find a workout you really enjoy, you're more likely to keep it up and stay healthy. If you don't, you won't.

So don't do yoga if it's not your cup of tea and you prefer to do weights. Don't lift if you find better meditation and balance in Yoga. It's truly all up to you!

How you stay fit and healthy is your business. Do the workouts that suit your personality type and find your health and happiness.

Why Personality Type?

Personality type helps decide the type of work you enjoy, the people you spend time with, and the hobbies you're drawn to. An extroverted personality type may be drawn to team sports or social outings. On the other hand, an introverted personality type might share dinner with one long-time friend or read a book by themselves in a comfortable corner of a coffee shop. Not everyone fits this either/or kind of mold. That, again, is what makes you, you.

Studies Show...

In 2010 the American Journal of Preventive Medicine published results from a survey asking how participants spent their time over the last 24 hours. The results determined that only 5% of American adults do some type of rigorous activity on any given day. Instead, most participants identified both sedentary (eating and drinking) and moderate (working in the garden) physical activities.

What's different about the personalities of the 5% that chose to perform the rigorous activity? NOTHING!

Chances are, working out is something that comes naturally to their personality type. Perhaps they enjoy socializing with others on the elliptical or the inner peace that comes from jogging around a lake by yourself. Maybe it's pushing past limits while a friend supports you from behind with every squat, or perhaps the feeling you get when it's just you, the plates you lift, and the music in your ears.

So how do you choose what workout is right for your personality type?

Although you could take a few weeks to try every workout out there, it might be better and less time-consuming to take a quiz aimed to steer you in the right direction.

Much like how the Myers-Briggs determines what type of introvert or extrovert you are, the 8 Colors of Fitness by Suzanne Brue identifies your preference for one-on-one training, group challenges, or high-impact cardio. The basic quiz is free and available online.
